saw Hey Rosetta play on Thursday night...it's always funny going to a show when you're unfamiliar with the music but it was AMAZING. the songs felt as if i'd heard them before...incredible energy, such a good performance. Patrick's banners were subtle enough that they didn't fight for attention with the band, but the little stars and gestures glowed just enough to make an impact. the best!

first you soak/wash the fibre in pH neutral soap and water to make it receptive to the dye...then you dip it for a minute and be careful not to drip a lot into the pot (the more oxygen that gets in, the quicker the dye is exhausted)

Here are some shots of paper in progress that I made the other day. The corn husks have to be cooked for two hours before beating. I accidentally made it into pulp paint so I went with it and made cotton/ abaca sheets using old t-shirts. The corn husk pulp paint was squeezed out of the ketchup bottle.

We were in Kanqiqsujuaq for Canada Day this summer and made a boat like no other to race in the annual boat race down the creek...only we were given the wrong time and missed it, so we had a race against the clock instead. The Gnarwal would've been victorious, no doubt. Nothing like the engineering of taped pringles containers.

We met for an informal interview at a restaurant in Cairo this past July, and we have yet to have this translated so we knows how it reads! The magazine is "Home" in English. This is the major interior design magazine in Egypt, and the article also talk about Juan Carlos Noria. Juan had his exhibition ours and we painted with him on the opening night. As we learned from people we met who visited Articulate Baboon gallery, the space is the first of it's kind in Egypt.

Choose Your Own Adventure: we did two installations for the show in Egypt this summer, a quintessential Egyptian car cover that was hung to resemble a pup tent, and an igloo made out of palm boxes. Palm boxes are used for everything, you will see them strapped to bikes, and holding just about everything and anything.

Evoke & Lexr...A rainy two days but it all worked out in the end. We even had a tent installed by the official arch painters from China who were in town to paint the big arch they just installed in Ottawa's Chinatown. For this one we reworked the image I painted at Queen and Dovercourt in Toronto with Logan Miller.

The first image, Tea for Three, is inspired by our buddy Omar who would invite us into his courtyard or chillspot for chai and biscuits. He didn't speak english, we didn't speak arabic, but that didn't stop us from having some laughs.

Here are some of the small pieces I did on my own for the Choose Your Own Adventure show. The first image, Asleep on a Train, is of a young boy who sat across from me on the third class train back to Cairo from Luxor. The boy was taking his turn to sit, squished in with two other boys in the 2-seater spot facing me. The two black woodcuts, 5:31 am to Luxor and WestBank's Finest, are images of the first cab driver we encounter stepping out of the Luxor train station.

Myself, Patrick Thompson, and Jonathon Cruz spent the past 9 days creating this mural on the outer wall of the hospital in Iqaluit, Nunavut. It was an amazing time--we got lucky with many sunny days, ate raw bowhead whale and arctic char, painstakingly picked heaps of blueberries, had tons of support and helping hands from residents, grazed the beautiful landscape, and got nothing but positive feedback. Lots of work but totally worth it, so fun. Can't wait to do the next installment!

So many adventures, so little blogging. Our show is 7 days away, opening at Articulate Baboon in Cairo, Egypt. We've been exploring and working hard for over a month, living off sugar cane juice and falafels--it's a good life. We are collaborating with emerging local designers Yousra Yassin and Miriam El Quessny to transform the space with some fun surprises, working with objects unique to Egypt that we have discovered along the way. Once again, it's Under one Roof comin' at yaaaaaa. This is our piece on the hall of fame, self-inducted! We happened upon the new Montana shop here and the nice guys there told us about this spot--soooo hot to paint at! Sweltering but worth it. We luckily found a make shift latter this time...the progress shots are yet to come. The wall is way longer than you can see in the photo, full full full. It's a super fun, friendly and easy going place--really good visit...2euro big sagres beer off the side of the street, cups included-yes!

not a very good photo sorry. this was fun to make, I'm going to get a better photo today...we left some of Hayden Thomas' previous image for Creative Type II on the stone which is the bits of woodblock type, and then drew into it, burnt some areas out.

Here are some of the prints that were on display at 52 McCaul...taking it all down tonight. The portraits, "silent sight," were my first lithography stone ever! Now I am addicted. The large piece, "cradle," is mine and pat's (http://www.flickr.com/photos/patrickevoke) image printed onto washi--that was pat's first lithography stone. The big stone is the best to work with by far.

We're going back to get high-res photos of all the pieces, but here are some goodies provided by a good friend. The opening was super fun. The work will be up all month so go check it out!!! Pat and I are working on a live painting installation at 52 McCaul for the month of April, and both have work up, as I am "Artist of the Month." There are other versions of the lithography prints shown at ONE2MANY on display at 52 and more will be added and changed as the month goes on.
